Talk about `being in radio’, Rick started working on the air when he was 16. He worked with a local rock and roll station during summer block parties for local junior and senior high schools in Pawtucket, R.I.

Shuttling back and forth between New York City and Providence, R.I., Rick cut his teeth on music radio during the hey day of rock and roll.

He managed to become a weekend `rock jock’ by the time he became a freshman in high school. And, he never looked back at anything else. “They actually paid me” was how he saw his good luck.

Radio has been Rick’s first great love, but he did a lot of television, too. When Rick dropped in to KOA one January back in 1982 he was already doing a talk show morning in Albuquerque, N.M. while working on his undergrad degree in Anthropology. (He already had a Journalism Degree from Metro State College in Denver). In between going to classes during the day, he was also doing mid-days on the local Classical station and evenings as the booth announcer for KOA TV. He was just dropping in to KOA to pick up an old friend in the news room for lunch. KOA was auditioning for new overnight TV/Radio host. It was the first of its kind in the country. Rick auditioned for the on-camera news anchor slot and got the gig on the first read. The rest, as the saying goes, is history. Rick’s been with KOA ever since. That’s almost 30 years since 1982.

Rick’s done just about everything in broadcasting; Morning and afternoon drive shows in talk and music, he’s been a Program Director, a News Director, a Music Director, a Production Director, a Programming Manager, a TV news anchor, a TV weatherman, a Newspaper Editor, and, last but certainly not least, the voice of overnight radio on KOA for almost three decades.

Rick’s sponsors ever the years have been long standing friends and loyal supporters of his show for all those years. The reason is simple; he knows the people, believes in their work, and does all his spots live and creatively ad-libbed. They’ve stayed with Rick for the simple reason his spots work for them. A sponsorship on Rick’s show is a sure-fire getter of customers through the door.

Besides, as Rick says, “Hey, if it’s work, I’m having the time of my life.” You will too.
